Strato offers dedicated servers with SSD disks

The CPUs, codenamed Suzuka are clocked at 2.9 GHz. The 45-nanometer chips have 6 MB of L3 cache. In addition, each core has more than 512 KByte L2 cache. The main memory is 8 GB of equipment that are connected via two DDR3 channels.

Instead of two mechanical hard drives that are mirrored with RAID 1, Strato has given the server the 160 GB of Intel SSD X-25 M. Since SSDs operate reliably than mechanical hard drives, Europe’s second largest web host has decided not to RAID-1 mirroring. Customers will also receive 160 GB FTP Backup included.

The connection of the server to the backbone is 100 Mbit / s. Therefore, take advantage of the SSD-only server boards, their applications have to cope with numerous random read accesses to the disk, for example, with complex MySQL databases.

The products manufactured in 34-nm MLC technology drives are writing compared to the more expensive SLC plates relatively slow. In the ZDNet test with the AS-SSD Benchmark reach the Intel SSDs 257.3 MByte / s for the sequential reading and 78.0 MByte / s write access.

The price for a server is 79 € per month with Linux (Ubuntu LTS 10:04, Debian 5.0, OpenSuse 11.2 or CentOS 5) and 99 € with Windows Web Server 2008 R2. It also includes unlimited traffic, two IPv4 addresses and without having to request a / 56 IPv6 network costs. The minimum contract period is six months. There are no setup fees.

New customers can also test for three months, the iSCSI storage ProStorage free. After the trial period shall revert to the normal prices, for example 75 euros per month for ProStorage 50 with 50 GB of disk space and 200 Mb / s bandwidth.
